Born: Melbourne 1979
Works: Teen Challenge South Australia
Family: Born to Ruth and Phil, sisters; Jenni, Kelly, Claire and Karen. Never married
My name is Timothy Webber. I was raised in Adelaide Australia, attend church mostly the ones my dad ministered at. Even with a pastor father this does not mean their kids will behave or even follow their faith.
I did believe in God as ap boy, by teenage years I found myself very shy and lonely and began to blame God. So by the time I left home to work at age 16 I was no longer a Christian and even tore pages of my Bible.
The next 10 years I worked full time, bought a house and then another. Had friends most much younger. Started binge drinking alcohol at regular parties (started drinking my mom’s wine age 13, after school. Yes she knows this now) then aged 22 began smoking marijuana.
By age 21 I was sick of being alone and began abusing alcohol. Simple reason is to take away thoughts of loneliness. Then I found pot to be far more effective at numbing the mind. The next few years, daily using drugs and/or alcohol daily! Even using whilst at work. This took its toll on my body and by 2008 I was very sick, Physically and mentally. Lost my job and was looking vague, like a ghost of a man. Only by the grace of God am I still alive, several stories could I tell that I probably should NOT have survived!
So in 2006 after losing my job and several hospital admissions, instead of talking another job. Living with parents (Still owned a house) but my dad convinced me to go to rehab.
Teen Challenge South Australia. Teen Challenge is a 12 month live in drug and alcohol rehabilitation centre for adults, despite the name. This is a Christian run, Bible based rehab.
I was still mad at God, if he existed. My mind was that God and the devil were the same person and I called him Dave! A few years prior, whilst stoned and watching Bruce almighty. When his phone rings and it’s God calling, I can remember this sense over me. God said “I will save you now if you Will trust me” Me, crying, thought having paused the movie
Then I said. Nup, I am too sad, depressed and lonely thanks God, but no thanks.
So. I find myself in rehab. Only one other student who entered the same day was in the program. After four days having entered on monday October 16 2006. My life would change, I gave my life to Christ.
Thursday October 19 2006AD or CE (Christs Existence) I met the RISEN Lord Jesus Christ.
After FOUR days of having my questions answered. Whilst in town getting my birth certificate for Centrelink, having been born in Melbourne. On a sunny spring afternoon. Looking up at the blue sky. I asked God to forgive my son’s and became a Christian! This other guy, prooving how real the unseen spiritual world is. Left the program
This other guy. Had a NIGHTMARE. With the solid Bible teaching we had even in just 3 days. The devil DOES NOT LIKE TO LOSE
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.
John 10:10 ESV
Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.
1 Peter 5:8 ESV
So this nightmare. This poor kid dreams that the devil is dragging him out! Wow. And he left. The day I gave my life to Christ
Then God does something remarkable! I find myself the only male student in the program. The three women were at a seperate location. So with staff teachers and overnight volunteers (Teen Challenge needs volunteers to run. Contact me if you are interested in Adelaide) so I read the Bible!
You may have noticed in my blog that I love to pull apart the Bible. I opened up in Genesis chapter one and in 8 weeks when the next men entered rehab, I had read the whole Bible. Cover to Cover. Why? To know what was in there! I read the NLT. I personally prefer the KJV and NKJV but I use many translations and am aware of the errors. Anyway. So in eight weeks I had read the Bible. Now I open the King James and start cross referencing and linking everything together. Wow life!
In May 2007 I left the program and enrolled into full time batchelor of ministry. Why not right? I have been called by God to be a teacher and possibly a pastor! Sounds like the logical next move? I’m except I left school age 16, never written an essay. Do not like study and failed English, simply because I didn’t need to learn what I already knew right? So if you see grammatical errors on my blog, I care little. I try my best to communicate what God has put on my heart. Just like Peter and John, uneducated fishermen who wrote the most amazing letters the world has ever seen.
Anyway I pressed on. Began to write essays and after six weeks of full time Bible college at University legal. Which I thought I was doing ok with. Problem is, just like that kid who left. SATAN DOWS NOT WANT ANYONE WALKING WITH JESUS THE LIFE GOD INTENDED. So not an excuse but a reality. I went back to drinking every day and quickly dropped out.
I had sold my house and has lots of money in my bank! Due to stress went into the pub every afternoon after school or gym, sitting at the bar and knocking down pints of Cooper’s sparkling ale. Eventually my money ran out. Went back to the sole and drinking cask wine before turning back to marijuana
But Timothy! You are a Christian, you have your life to Christ and are a new creation! What on earth are you doing?
In Exodus we see Israel brought out of slavery in Egypt and then they went straight into the promised land! Isn’t that what happened? We come to Christ and all our problems disappear? This next bit is the most important for new and battling Christians to grasp. It is call being led through the wilderness.
Israel like us, saved by the blood of the lamb. Israel had lambs blood on the door posts in Egypt and the angel of the Lord struck the Egyptian first born but PASSED OVER the Israeli when he saw the blood. Jesus Christ, the lamb of God. Hung on a cross and his blood, the blood of the lamb, redeemed us!
So Israel led by Moses, crossed the Red sea, baptized into Moses. We are baptized into Christ. Israel entered the wilderness for a time of testing, Jesus entered the wilderness after baptism for a time of testing. So are we Les into the wilderness to see if we will actually be led by the Holy spirit like Jesus did. After 40 days Jesus overcame Satan and entered into His Fathers promises. Israel because of disobedience, spent 40 years wandering in the wilderness and sadly, do many of us.
So I spent 13 years in the wilderness. Learning, reading and studying the Bible bit still trapped in addition. Several more attempts at secular rehab and somehow keeping up an active church life.
Then, knowing that I was probably meant to be involved with teen challenge, due to circumstances with my disabled house mate, who has since gone to be with out Lord, pain free amen! I found myself homeless and God made the way for me to return to teen challenge as a student.
You see, when I turned 39 in December 2018 I panicked about being 40 and lonely. Went back to daily drinking alcohol. Several months later God, as He does, picked me back up and placed me back in teen challenge. Now, a year on having completed the program and spent the first few months seeking God. He kepe waiting to see if I would push through.
I waited patiently for the Lord ; he inclined to me and heard my cry. He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure. He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the Lord . Blessed is the man who makes the Lord his trust, who does not turn to the proud, to those who go astray after a lie!
Psalm 40:1-4 ESV
I knew early on back in rehab that I was supposed to stay and use the gift of teaching in teen challenge. When corona hit Adelaide and we got isolated, nearing the end for me, I was asked to run our Friday night chapel, given nobody could come in or go out. Such a blessing for me and this is life!
Currently at Bible school, when I return to SA to start my work as an intern with TCSA, we will see what God wants to do with the ministry!
